More of HIM, Less of Us

READ: JUDGES 7:1-25 & LUKE 23:13-43 & PSALM 97:1-98:9 & PROVERBS 14:7-8

During good times, we often feel we have it all together. Our ducks are in a row, nothing can stop us. It is especially during these times that we need to be careful not to boast in our own strength instead of relying on and thanking God.

Gideon became a judge when Israel was at war with the nation of Midian. At the beginning of Judges 7, Gideon has an army that could probably defeat the Midianites easily. God had different plans. Judges 7:2-3 says, “The Lord said to Gideon, ‘You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her, announce now to the people, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.’’”

The Lord had Gideon weed out men from Israel’s army until only 300 remained to conquer the Midianites. God gave the Midianites to the Israelites that night. Israel merely had to obey God.

In our weakness, God is stronger. When we reduce our own “numbers” we step out of the spotlight and let God have it. This obedience is what God wants from us. When He has the spotlight in our lives, He can do more than we can imagine or accomplish on our own.

Hope is coming!

READ: JUDGES 1:1-2:9 & LUKE 21:29-22:13 & PSALM 90:1-91:16 & PROVERBS 13:24-25

One day Jesus will return to Earth. He will to put Satan in his place and bring Christians to the place He’s been preparing for us. In Luke 21, Jesus reminds people to be ready for His return. He warns us to be careful of doing whatever culture says is right and of allowing life’s worries to distract us from seeing what is to come. Instead, He urges us to pray and watch for Him.

Jesus also describes in detail the signs that His return is near. Some of what will happen could easily make us anxious about the future. But Jesus is encouraging and empowering. He never abandons us. In Luke 21:28, Jesus says, “When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”

Jesus assures us that we don’t have to be afraid, because we’re with Him. We can be expectant and hopeful of the future because Jesus has already won!

1 Timothy 4:12

11-14

Get the word out.

Teach all these things.

And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young.

Teach believers with your life:

by word,

by demeanor,

by love,

by faith,

by integrity.

Stay at your post

reading Scripture,

giving counsel,

teaching.

And that special gift of ministry you were given

when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed

—keep that dusted off and in use.

Devoted (Citipointe)

I’m losing
my whole life
In your purpose and
for your heart’s desire
I’m running
with blinded eyes
faith as my guide
let your love take flight

Refrain:
For you, all was put aside
all for you and I
Father it’s you I love

Chorus:
I’m devoted to you
sacred love, my truth
I’m devoted to you
all in all I worship you
I worship you my Lord

Bridge:
Precious God
Into your arms
Without blame I come
Your blood has saved us all

Breath of LIFE …Ezekiel 37:1-14 The Message (MSG)

Ezekiel 37

Breath of Life

1-2 God grabbed me. God’s Spirit took me up and set me down in the middle of an open plain strewn with bones. He led me around and among them—a lot of bones! There were bones all over the plain—dry bones, bleached by the sun.

3 He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”

I said, “Master God, only you know that.”

4 He said to me, “Prophesy over these bones: ‘Dry bones, listen to the Message of God!’”

5-6 God, the Master, told the dry bones, “Watch this: I’m bringing the breath of life to you and you’ll come to life. I’ll attach sinews to you, put meat on your bones, cover you with skin, and breathe life into you. You’ll come alive and you’ll realize that I am God!”

7-8 I prophesied just as I’d been commanded. As I prophesied, there was a sound and, oh, rustling! The bones moved and came together, bone to bone. I kept watching. Sinews formed, then muscles on the bones, then skin stretched over them. But they had no breath in them.

9 He said to me, “Prophesy to the breath. Prophesy, son of man. Tell the breath, ‘God, the Master, says, Come from the four winds. Come, breath. Breathe on these slain bodies. Breathe life!’”

10 So I prophesied, just as he commanded me. The breath entered them and they came alive! They stood up on their feet, a huge army.

11 Then God said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Listen to what they’re saying: ‘Our bones are dried up, our hope is gone, there’s nothing left of us.’

12-14 ”Therefore, prophesy. Tell them, ‘God, the Master, says: I’ll dig up your graves and bring you out alive—O my people! Then I’ll take you straight to the land of Israel. When I dig up graves and bring you out as my people, you’ll realize that I am God. I’ll breathe my life into you and you’ll live. Then I’ll lead you straight back to your land and you’ll realize that I am God. I’ve said it and I’ll do it. God’s Decree.’”
